The beginning…
It all started out as a bunch of casual English-German translations that I seemed to have a knack for. Over time, however, I noticed that the accuracy of a translation was as much dependent on setting and context as on using the right words and grammar. In a similar vein, teaching English and German to teenagers and seasoned professionals alike reaffirmed that their setting mattered just as much as the formal curriculum. Having worked in different fields, including environmental consulting and tech, I was constantly reminded that the written and spoken word were more often than not good indicators of success or failure. A context can be colloquial, formal, or convivial in nature, which isn’t an exhaustive list of course. Just like a translation of a document needs to be as accurate a representation of the original document, it also needs to capture your personality and speak your audience’s language.
